A citizens peace initiative ISMBV

Slovak Initiative for a Just Peace in the Middle East

We are a non-formal group of people of different professional specialisations, different faith or without one, sharing a common aim: to support a just, sustainable peace in the Middle East, in the Palestine / Israel territories particularly.

We are confident that a desirable peaceful solution of Israeli-Palestinian conflict can be only based in democratic principles, i.e. in equal legal environment for all citizens, providing the background for developing all of included ethnic, religious and cultural identities, parallely and in collaboration (not only Israelis and Palestinians or Jews and Arabs, jews and muslims and christians, but as well for other minorities, e.g. Africans, who are harshly persecuted in Israel).

Our objectives and activities

The main objective of ISMBV (from Slovak: Iniciatíva za spravodlivý mier na Blízkom východe) is to contribute to initiation of real peace process for the territory of historical Palestine, using our European citizens rights as well as a soft power of personal influence, contributing to changes in our local social environment. Three pillars for that are: awareness, charity and BDS.

Awareness

Basics of ISMBV activities consist of spreading awareness of history, society and living conditions in Palestine / Israel.

We try to fill the main gaps of mainstream media reporting on Palestine / Israel, by monitoring and sharing uncensored press news, quality journalist opinions and direct reports from our contacts.

Our schedule for awareness program for the year 2015 includes organising cultural events, exhibitions, presentations, discussions and publications - both press or blog articles, public statements and books.

We open a dialogue on the topic of Palestine, mediate authentic meetings  leading to comprehension, often in isolated communities, suffering from calcification of indoctrinated opinions and from prejudices - where demonizing of unknown and collective victimisation easily accrue from, leading to xenophobia and dehumanisation that is essential for public atmosphere supportive for the unacceptable Israeli policies.

Charity

Humanitarian aid became vital in the situation of multiple humanitarian catastrophy Gazans are hit with after the last summer assault and after 7 years lasting blockade.

While organising our own collections is ineffective due to costly logistics, we promote and mediate donation contacts to trustworthy organisations which manage and execute reconstruction, medical and humanitarian work in Gaza strip.

BDS and direct citizens action

Contribution and propagation of cultural, academic, economic and diplomatic boycott of Israel in accordance with directives of BDS movement is crucial and momentous for the change of inacceptable, devastating situation of Palestinians, lacking both self-determination as a nation and basic dignity in their daily lives.

Direct action include organising demonstrations, manifestations and pressure on Slovak (European, respectively) political representatives and media.

Voluntary and independent

Activities of ISMBV are wholly accomplished as a volunteering, up to now. We plan to apply for European funds for our close future activities.

Membership in ISMBV is free and contributions to cover activity expenses voluntary.
